Day 9: September 25, 2023 (A (quite) rainy Day at Dunstaffnage Castle)

Miro, Yuki and Mia.

After a stormy night, the day started very laid back. We had breakfast quite late, at around half past 9. We had to cancel our Plan A & B because of severe weather which was caused by a former hurricane, the hurricane Nigel, which was traveling over the Atlantic to north east Scotland. Our teachers still wanted to provide us with an interesting programme, so they spontaneously developed a Plan C. We were told that we would meet at the station at one o' clock. So we met at the bus station near the train station and were waiting for the bus to arrive, when it started to rain again. We then visited Dunstaffnage Castle, which was really beautiful and from the top we had a nice view. Dunstaffnage Castle was important in the times of Robert the Bruce, who reigned Scotland from 1306 to 1329.  It was built by the MacDougall Clan and was the residence of Duncan Mac Dougall. It was taken away from the Mac Dougall Clan because they sided a little too much with the English. In the following centuries it changed its owners a few times until the castle was passed to Clan Campbell in the 15th century and had been held by  Clan Campbell until it was no longer habitable. In the attic of the castle we had some lunch and played UNO and Jenga.

After that we went to the oldest ocean centre of Scotland SAMS (Scottish Association of Marine Science), which happened to be nearby and we had fun exploring different fun things. E.g. there was a programme where we could listen to the sounds made by different animals and some of them were quite surprising. Furthermore, one could learn how algae can be turned into biofuel.

We finally went back home with another bus and already bought some food for the journey tomorrow. Back in the Hostel everybody either relaxed or did some chores like packing, cooking or doing their laundry. We enjoyed the last evening in Oban staying in. We played some games and prepared ourselves for the long and eventful journey tomorrow. We are all sad that we have to leave the small harbour city of Oban but are very excited about our next and final stop of our trip:  Glasgow.
