Day 6: September 22, 2023 (Goodbye Edinburgh – Hello Oban)

 Maël, Marieke & Nava.

This morning we met a little later than usual because we had to pack our luggage… but still some of us woke up earlier because we had yet another birthday to celebrate. Lia turned 18! We prepared a lovely brunch.

After checking out, our train was waiting for us! The journey took us to Oban with a little stop in Glasgow. Oban is a seaside town nestled on the west coast of Scotland, surrounded by beautiful shores and countryside.

Even though just sitting on a train all day long sounds a bit boring, there was still not one dull moment. For example, the train to Oban was extremely packed with people and at one station a group of elderly people entered. We offered our places to them, which then resulted in funny conversations. We found out that the group came from Canada. One gentleman told us that he had left Scotland when he was just a boy and that it was his first time back in his old home. It felt like having a chat with your grandparents and a lovely experience.
Arriving in Oban we were welcomed by a lot of wind and the smell of the ocean. Having left our luxurious apartments in Edinburgh behind, we entered Oban Youth Hostel with the right frame of mind?? We were rewarded with a beautiful sea view from our rooms. This inspired some of us to go for a swim. Others went to buy lunch to prepare for our exciting trip tomorrow.

Ending the day on a good note, we ate at an Indian restaurant. Most of us really liked the dishes there. A couple of us were struggling a bit with their choices made. Having said this, we went to bed happily nevertheless.
